Holy Rosary High School hosted Beijingshi Guozijian zhongxue (Beijing Middle School) for a Cultural Exchange Day recently. Holy Rosary School learners learnt about Chinese calligraphy, Diablo (yoyo equivalent), had a martial Arts dance performance, and had a Peking Opera performance. In response to the Chinese performances, Holy Rosary’s Phumelela Outreach Programme Gumboot dancers performed, the Grade 6s performed and danced to Mango Groove – ‘Special Star’, and the High School Choir sang two pieces. The visitors then joined the girls during class – experiencing ‘a day in the life of…’ Some of Holy Rosary’s Chinese learners acted as translators. It was a great experience, and it is hoped that the friendship ties created, will continue for several years to come.
